It’s that time of year again in Wisconsin, spring is upon us. Don’t blink or you will miss it! For us, at CrossFit Lozen, it has been a long time coming because warm weather means we get to take our fitness outdoors!
April seemed like nothing but rain… But you know what they say, April showers bring May vegetables! Wait, what? Okay, not really. However, vegetables can start to grow and before you know it every day of the week will be filled with a local farmers market! Yeah not really either, if only! So, to the grocery stores, we go. Let’s face it, their convenient; you can get your, laundry detergent, kids raincoat because they’ve already lost the first one at school, and yourself that book you’ve been wanting all in the same trip as your groceries.
I’m not going to sit here and tell you that you need to be buying all organic foods because it can be a pretty penny, especially when feeding a family of five… basically, six when there is more than one boy, fact. So I’ll just get it over with and say buy organic whenever you can. I always find marked down produce at the Local Co-Op Outpost that is very reasonable.
When you can’t or don’t have access to organic vegetables, make sure you are washing and rinsing them!
Below is a shopper’s guide to pesticides in produce, conducted and made by the Environmental Workgroup, a non-profit consumer protection agency.
Next time you’re at the grocery store and you find yourself in the produce section, even though you are really there for dog food (it’s okay I won’t judge) make sure you are taking a look at this list and maybe opting for the organic option when you can!
I hope this list helps you as much as it helped me when picking up groceries…and a new plant or two.
Make today great,
